Dr Adams

Dr. Stephen Adams, MD, AAHIVS

Medical Director
Dr. Stephen Adams, MD, AAHIVS, Medical Director has provided direct HIV patient care at APO since 2008. He practiced locally at Cox Health Systems as Director of Urgent Care for over 15 years and has been on the faculty of Cox FMCC. He has also served on the APO Board as president and a member of the Executive Committee for many years.

Rachael Winston, MD

Medical Provider
Rachael Winston, MD has been part of the Springfield Community for 7 years. She practices locally at Cox Health Systems Urgent Care and she sees patients one day a week at APO for primary care, Hepatitis C, women’s health, and HIV care.

Lorri Darrow, MD

Psychiatrist
Lorri Darrow, MD, Psychiatrist provides on-site outpatient psychiatric care for patients of APO. She was originally trained as a Clinical Psychologist practicing for 15 years at Burrell Behavioral Health and in private practice. Dr. Darrow graduated from medical school in 2014. She currently treats adults, with a special interest in HIV/AIDS populations.

Stephane Counts, MSN-FNP, FNP-C

Medical Provider
Stephane Counts is a family nurse practitioner who has spent the bulk of her 12 year NP career in rural health, providing care across the spectrum, from birth to death. Having years of experience at a rural health FQHC, she is comfortable providing continued general and specialty care for most chronic disease states including women’s health, LARC placement and removal (IUD and Nexplanon), some dermatology and skin procedures, and many acute care needs. She is now transitioning into HIV, GAHT, PrEP, PEP, and Hep C management. Having shadowed at APO in her BSN program, Stephane has always had a soft spot for APO and its mission, and is proud to now be part of the team.

Julie Macke, LCSW

Behavioral Health Coordinator
Julie Macke, LCSW, Behavioral Health Coordinator provides on-site counseling within the APO clinic, makes referrals to off-site behavioral health providers, and coordinates with the psychiatric providers both in and outside the clinic. She has worked in mental health services for over 15 years and at APO since 2008. Her specialties include work with chronic illness, trauma, grief & loss, sexual orientation and gender identity.

Kathy Van Hooser, MS, LPC, CRAADC, EMDR Certified

Behavioral Health Clinician
Kathy Van Hooser, MS, LPC, CRAADC, EMDR Certified, Behavioral Health Clinician provides EMDR therapy for on-site counseling within the APO clinic. Having retired from the U. S. Navy as a Corpsman, she brings a diverse background to her position. Graduating from MSU, she has worked in the Mental Health field for 6 years and has been at APO since 2018. Her specialties include Trauma & Stressor Related Disorders, and Substance-Related & Addictive Disorders.

Melissa Tiffany, MS, LPC

Behavioral Health Clinician
Melissa Tiffany, MS, LPC has worked in HIV health services since 1993. She has worked with those living with HIV in several roles at APO. She is well-versed in LGBTQ issues, gender related issues, and crisis counseling.
